Q: I am in my floorplan in Revit and I cannot export to Nception, what is wrong?

A: Nception exports exclusively from a 3D view in Revit.  You cannot export to Nception from a plan or detail view.

Q: How can I control the elements I see in the model when I export my project to Nception?

A: The best way to control which elements are visible in Nception is by use of Visibility Graphics and View Templates in Revit.  Nception VIM files are WYSIWYG any element visible in the 3D view is exported to the VIM file.

Q: What is a VIM file?

A: VIM is an acronym for Virtual Information Model and serves a purpose similar to .pdf files for documents.  The VIM files include model and data directly from the Revit file and also includes any elements that may be present in linked files.

Q: I have opened the Nception Viewer, but I cannot see my model, what do I do now?

A: Use the directory feature in the viewer to quickly move to a known space in the model. Then use flight mode to move outside the building to an appropriate view and set that position as your new “Home” position.

Q: Most of my model appears Gray in the Nception viewer, why is this occurring?

A: Most likely this is due to the phase setting in the view you are exporting.  The phase assignments override the material setting in Nception so that the object appears as it does in the Revit view when the view setting is set to “realistic” so if you are doing an addition or renovation model and the phase is set to “new construction”  elements assigned to any other phase will appear as gray in the Nception viewer.

Q: My organization is low on full seats of Revit but my assistant needs to export an Nception VIM file for an upcoming meeting.  What can I do?

A: The Nception exporter works from Revit in full or “viewer” mode.  Nception does not require a full seat of Revit.
